Evil Has An Ordinary Face
I wish I could say I felt something different when I was in the presence of a mass murderer, handing me a cup of espresso …. Evil has an ordinary face. It laughs, it cries, it deflects, it rationalizes, it makes great pasta.

Ms. Affinia
For gnarling sorrow hath less power to bite
The man that mocks it and sets it light
(quoting John of Gaunt (part of Ms. Affinia’s
Shakespeare study of the Life and Death
of Richard the Second)
Ms. Affina was Chip’s 10th grade English teacher. She saw such potential in Chip, she loved him. Not with the 21st century vulgar type of teacher-student love. She loved him in that she wanted what was best for him. She wanted to cut out the gnarling weed that was choking him and water what was left and watch it grow.
“Why such a long face, Chip?” Ms. Affinia asked.
“Nothing really,” Chip answered.
“You know I love you and want what’s best for you, right?”
“… I love you, but I never loved this town. This town was always inward-looking. Always looking at itself in a mirror. Afraid to breathe. Afraid that if it breathed out someone else might breathe up all its air. That it might suffocate….”
It Just Fits
“I want to go to Chicago, a city like Chicago,” Chip said.
“What’s so special about Chicago?” Christy asked.
“It fits,” Chip answered.
“But how is it different from here?”
“This place just doesn’t fit me. Doesn’t fit you either. This town fits most people here, fits most people like clothes their momma made ’em. But not us.”
“I don’t know. … It seems to fit me pretty good. What does Chicago have that we don’t got?”
“You don’t get it. You’ve never been there. It ain’t that it’s got this or that. It’s that it fits. It just fits.”

The Antihero Is A Damaged Person
Only villains are evil – an anithero is a deluded, damaged individual. -David Weisberg
The antihero is not evil. The antihereo may be “exceedingly bright and pleasant to [his] neighbors and colleagues, [his] family, [his] dog” but when he is all alone, he wants to “indulge in the shadows.” He wants to “lie, cheat, [terrorize], abuse, and kill.” He loves to watch someone cower. Empowered by moral exceptionalism, the antihero is not restrained by conscience. When the righteous are repulsed by him and look away – he flourishes in their voluntary blindness.1

Narcissists Exaggerate
Narcissists may tell you they have done something ten or twelve times. In reality, they may have been the assistant to someone who did it once. Narcissists exaggerate.

Narcissists Think Every Else Is Stupid
More than they think they are so smart, narcissists think everyone else is stupid. Expect narcissists to criticize you (or degrade you in some way) while at the same time seeking compliments.

The Narcissist Loves To Talk About The Narcissist
If you hear a lot of bragging over a long period of time, that’s probably a narcissistic [] speaking. If they are constantly refocusing the conversation back on themselves and all the deals they have won in the past, if they are making exaggerated hand movements, and elevate voice volume, but then you see their eyes glazing over when you speak, you are probably working with narcissistic ….
